What We’re Talking About 6/9/10

Another rig is spilling oil into the gulf.  The Deepwater Horizon is not the only well leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico for the last month.

A nearby drilling rig, the Ocean Saratoga, has been leaking since at least April 30, according to a federal document.

While the leak is decidedly smaller than the Deepwater Horizon spill, a 10-mile-long slick emanating from the Ocean Saratoga is visible from space in multiple images gathered by Skytruth.org, which monitors environmental problems using satellites.

Federal officials did not immediately respond when asked about the size of the leak, how long it had been flowing, or whether it was possible to plug it.  (Read More).

No summer jobs for teens…Hooray they will be hanging around the house more!  The kickoff to the summer job season is not looking so hot for teens.

Employment among 16-to 19-year olds in May grew by just 6,000, the smallest increase since 1969, when teen jobs fell by 14,000, according to government data analyzed by employment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In May 2008 and 2009, teen employment grew by over 110,000.

“It’s certainly a preliminary strong indication that it’s going to be a tough job market for teens,” said John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas. (Read More).
How to get that song that’s stuck, out of your head.  It can’t be explained by nature or science, but it happens to everyone: You get some annoying tune or jingle playing on repeat in your noggin’ for hours on end. Here is how to stop the music.

It happened to me just this morning. As soon as I woke up, the chorus of the Carpenters’ “Top of the World” was echoing in my skull, over and over. At first, it was nice to have Karen’s sunny voice (and skeletal head) ratting around in my subconscious, but after an entire subway ride of “On top of the world, looking (beat) down on creation…” it was more than enough.  (Read More).
