Coppell Mayor kills daughter then self in apparent murder/suicide.  Police in Coppell, Texas, say the town’s mayor, Jayne Peters, shot and killed her 19-year-old daughter Tuesday evening before turning the gun on herself.

The apparent murder-suicide was discovered Tuesday when authorities went to Peters’ home after the mayor did not show up for a city meeting, Fox News reported.

Today, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that Peters had killed herself after killing her daughter, The Associated Press said.

Corinne Peters, the mayor’s daughter, had just graduated from Coppell High School. She was to begin her freshman year at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

Following the 2008 death of Donald Peters — the mayor’s husband and Corinne Peters’ father — from cancer, the mother and daughter lived alone in Coppell, an affluent suburb of Dallas. (Read More).

Beavis and Butthead are back on MTV.  Beavis and Butt-head are coming back to MTV.

The New York Post’s Michael Starr reports that “Beavis and Butt-head” episodes are “in the works.”

The show, which was a hallmark of ’90s slacker culture, was canceled in 1997.

“The new series would keep Beavis and Butt-head in their perpetual high-school state, but it would be updated so that the pals — who obsessively watch music videos on a battered TV set — could lob their snarky comments at more current targets like Lady Gaga,” the Post reports. “The show’s minimalist animated style is also expected to remain intact.”  (Read More).

FCC gets bitch slapped ! A federal appeals court threw out the FCC’s rules on indecent speech Tuesday, in a big win for broadcasters that could lead to a new Supreme Court test of the government’s power to control what is said on television and radio.

A three-judge panel of the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York said the Federal Communications Commission’s indecency policies violate the First Amendment and are “unconstitutionally vague, creating a chilling effect that goes far beyond the fleeting expletives at issue here.” (Read More).

Now we gotta stop eating Guacamole and salsa!  Hot or mild, the salsa and guacamole Americans love to order in restaurants may be packing an unexpected kick, according to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The dishes were blamed for one in 25 identified outbreaks of food poisoning at restaurants between 1998 and 2008—more than twice the rate of the previous decade, the CDC said. Often, the outbreaks were traced to raw hot peppers, tomatoes and cilantro—common ingredients in salsa and guacamole.

Uncooked foods, such as salsa and guacamole, are risky because there is no heat to wipe out bad bacteria, says Lisa McBeth, who supervises food safety for the Qdoba Mexican Grill chain, based in Wheat Ridge, Colo. She said the company inspects suppliers, monitors its kitchens and prohibits bare-handed contact with food. “It’s the same risk you have at home if you don’t wash your hands or if your refrigerator isn’t working properly,” Ms. McBeth said.  (Read More).

Domestically, that makes it the most-watched soccer game of all time, according to Nielsen Media Research. 

The 1-0 victory by Spain, televised by ABC and Univision, surpasses the 19.4 million viewers that tuned in for the U.S. vs. Ghana match earlier in this World Cup.

Get your anti Vuvuzela filter today!  An online company has begun marketing an “Anti Vuvuzela Filter” that promises to silence the sound of the controversial plastic trumpets that have become the trademark of South Africa’s World Cup.

The company’s web site, antivuvuzelafilter.com, sells an MP3 audio file for 2.95 euros (3.60 dollars) that the company says will cancel the vuvuzela noise for TV viewers by producing a sound wave similar to the horn’s that cancels the noise.

“Just download our specially designed vuvuzela noise cancellation MP3 and play it back on your home stereo system, computer, iPod, iPhone, etc.,” the web site says.

“Depending on the circumstances, the resulting soundwave may be so faint as to be inaudible to human ears.” (Read More).

Welcome to prison Joran!  Last week, a Peruvian judge ordered Joran van der Sloot, the young Dutchman charged in the killing of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman, held in Miguel Castro Castro, a maximum-security prison on the outskirts of Lima.

The move was surprising to legal analysts who expected van der Sloot to be incarcerated in Lima’s infamous Lurigancho Prison. However, an expert familiar with many of the world’s worst prisons told AOL News that the Dutchman didn’t catch much of a break.

“It’s not any better than Lurigancho,” said Michael Griffith, senior partner at the International Legal Defense Counsel. “It’s pretty much the same conditions. The prisoners run the prison, and the guards are an afterthought.”  (Read More).

But then, the television cameras started rolling on Alvin Greene’s overgrown lawn.

“Yeah, it’s been pretty nonstop for a few days,” said Mr. Greene, 32, in a phone interview Friday.

Because everyone wants to know how Mr. Greene, an unemployed Army veteran who had been completely unknown until Tuesday, inexplicably defeated a heavily favored former legislator and judge to become the state’s Democratic nominee for the Senate — and the state’s latest political circus act. Ice road trucker Hugh Rowland joins the show!  Dianne Rowland, wife of Ice Road Trucker Hugh Rowland, was perfectly happy to let her husband disappear into the great white north for a couple of months every year, trucking goods and equipment to and from the mines in the Arctic Circle. Until she saw the first episode of the History Channel’s television series that chronicles his journeys. Five minutes into it, she put her foot down and said he wasn’t going back. Their three daughters agreed with their mother.

Rowland, a big, burly bear of a man, laughed and reminded her that he’d been doing it safely for the past 30 years. He loves it, and besides, it has provided a good living for them all. In just a few months, he and the other truckers he employs gross about $250,000 — and that’s only in about two months.  (Read More).

Blackhawks when the Stanley Cup!!!  CHICAGO — The Stanley Cup returned to Chicago for the first time in 49 years early Thursday and its arrival along with the Blackhawks at O’Hare International Airport warranted a water cannon salute.

The Blackhawks ended the NHL’s longest championship drought Wednesday night in Philadelphia with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Flyers in Game Six of the Stanley Cup finals. The team last won the trophy in 1961 by defeating Detroit, also in six games.

The Blackhawks brought the Cup home on a chartered Boeing 737 that taxied to a private terminal tucked on the airport’s eastern edge at 3:55 a.m. A pair of white Chicago Fire Department airport trucks blasted celebratory arcs of water over the jet as it came to a stop on the tarmac. (Read More).

Another rig is spilling oil into the gulf.

A nearby drilling rig, the Ocean Saratoga, has been leaking since at least April 30, according to a federal document.

While the leak is decidedly smaller than the Deepwater Horizon spill, a 10-mile-long slick emanating from the Ocean Saratoga is visible from space in multiple images gathered by Skytruth.org, which monitors environmental problems using satellites.

Federal officials did not immediately respond when asked about the size of the leak, how long it had been flowing, or whether it was possible to plug it.  (Read More).

No summer jobs for teens…Hooray they will be hanging around the house more!  The kickoff to the summer job season is not looking so hot for teens.

Employment among 16-to 19-year olds in May grew by just 6,000, the smallest increase since 1969, when teen jobs fell by 14,000, according to government data analyzed by employment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In May 2008 and 2009, teen employment grew by over 110,000.

“It’s certainly a preliminary strong indication that it’s going to be a tough job market for teens,” said John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas. (Read More).

This is what happens when you mess with a mans’ daughter..aka greatest father story ever!  An angry father is accused of using a stun gun on a 23 year old man who sent his 17 year old daughter an explicit cell phone picture.

William Atwood Sr., 45, was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies in connection with the case.

Authorities say Atwood lured Justin Moore to his home, ordered him to strip down to his boxer shorts, and tied him up and tased him with a stun gun before turning him over to a sheriff’s deputy.

Moore told authorities he sent a photo of his genitals to several friends, including Atwood’s daughter, as a joke.  (Read More).
